When Edward Francis Howarth was born on 2 September 1936 in Manchester, Lancashire, his father George was 25 and his mother Helena was 20.  He married Olwyn Emily Fairclough Evans in September 1960 at St Martins Church, Wythenshawe, Manchester.  they had two children, and he died on 5th October 2015 at the age of 79.
